It Was Never Funny
Ha ha ha. This is funny because musicians are losers who can never be counted on to make a living.
I hate cartoons like this. When was this joke first used? 1922?

I agree with you.
And I'm proud to say that, when I needed to step away from my former occupation 4 years ago, being a musician was my "fall back" occupation. It took some time, but now between teaching and performing, music is all I do.

It's experiment time! Let's resupply this worn out cartoon with a fresh stereotype and see if it helps!
"Lute, after we're married, do you still plan on making your living as a lawyer?"
"Yes... why do you ask?"
"Maybe you could volunteer at the animal shelter, or feed the homeless, as a backup plan to save your soul from damnation?"
(Insert laughter here, because all lawyers are bad guys intent upon evil deeds!)
Hmm..
Seems like even the allmighty power of lawyer jokes can't make a Hagar the Horrible (aptly named huh?) cartoon funny. Guess we'll stick to high quality strips like Peanuts or Calvin and Hobbes :)
